Metro has the Football Transfer Tavern in a frenzy this evening as they reference German reports from Bild which seem to think that Arsenal are keen on a former Chelsea flop.
The player in question is Belgian international Kevin De Bruyne who has been excelling in the Bundesliga for new side Wolfsburg, so much so that he has managed to gain the interest of several sides, one apparently being the North London giants.
Arsene Wenger is well known for giving young players a chance but we think that given De Bruyne did have a chance at Chelsea and failed to grasp his opportunity, it would be a gamble to pay the massive £25 million fee the German side would be asking for the player.
De Bruyne’s agent, Patrick De Koster all but confirmed the interest in his client and claimed: “I know some clubs are interested in him,
“This is normal. It’s recognition for his and our hard work.”
Six goals and 12 assists in half a season is pretty decent by anyone’s standards but we think that given De Bruyne has already flopped in England once, he could well do so again.
However, a couple of our Arsenal fans note that Chelsea did not give him a many first team opportunities to impress in and with a regular string of games, he can obviously shine as he is currently showing at the Volkswagen Arena.
Arsenal fans. Would you be willing to shell out for this Chelsea flop? Would you be able to bring the best out in him or do you have too many players in his mould already? Let us know your thoughts below.
