Metro have some news that Arsenal fans are not exactly thrilled with here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
They claim that Bacary Sagna is edging closer to the exit door at the Emirates Stadium rather than signing a new contract.
As our landlord points out before he pours a pint for one of our regulars, the Gunners have been trying to convince the right back to stay and pen a new deal with the club.
Arsene Wenger has even admitted that the North London side are willing to offer a deal longer than a year – and that the club are desperate to keep him at the club.
“When I say I expect, it’s more that I want [him to stay],’ said Wenger.
“I hope that in the end I am right. We are not close at the moment.
“He wants to keep his options open, because he is at the end of a contract. It is an important contract for him. He is 31 years old. I can understand.”
As our regulars note, Sagna is lucky to have a deal on the table, with the mandatory single year’s extension for a player of his age being overlooked.
Will Wenger be able to convince him to pen a new deal? Let us know your thoughts below.
