Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been discussing one of their most highly-rated youngsters over a celebratory pint following yesterday’s thrilling victory over Manchester United at the Emirates.
The topic of their conversation appears to be young Alex Iwobi, nephew of Premier League great Jay-Jay Okocha, who looks set to be leaving North London on a temporary basis in search of first-team football.
Goal have run with quotes from the player’s father, Chuka Iwobi, who has stated his son is keen to experience time away from Arsenal imminently- with a loan planned for once the starlet returns from international duty with Nigeria.
“A few clubs in the United Kingdom and abroad have approached Arsenal to take Alex on loan but Arsene Wenger wants him to be with the first team because he did very well in pre-season,”
“Alex’s preferred option at this stage is to go on loan to gain first team experience and come back to Arsenal later on to fight for a place.”
“Hopefully a loan move will be sorted out by the time Alex comes back from international duties.”
Iwobi impressed our Arsenal punters in the pre-season Emirates Cup tournament, where he starred and scored in the demolition of last season’s Ligue 1 runners-up Lyon.
Our regulars want to see Iwobi shine for Arsenal but accept that’s unlikely to happen anytime soon due to the strong competition for places in North London, believing a loan move for the young Nigerian is the perfect approach.
