The Football Transfer Tavern was left surprised when speculation emerged that Arsenal star Santi Cazorla was being lined up for a summer move back to Spain with Atletico Madrid preparing to launch bid for the classy Gunners midfielder.
The 28-year-old was reported to be on the radar of Atletico coach Diego Simeone and the Argentine manager said ‘anything is possible’ when asked about a possible transfer for the former Malaga man.
However Cazorla has come out to quash the rumours that he is heading to the exit at the Emirates Stadium and had reaffirmed his commitment to the Emirates Stadium club according to MailOnline.
‘Much has been made the subject of Atletico Madrid, but I am very good in London,’ Cazorla told reporters.
‘I have a contract with Arsenal and I start training on Monday
He admitted that he does want to play in Spain again but is happy for the time being in North London.
‘Perhaps I will return to Spain one day, but right now it’s very unlikely,’ he added.
Atletico have recruited Cazorla’s international team-mate and close friend David Villa from Barcelona this summer further increasing speculation of a move for the midfielder but while he admitted he was happy for Villa he made no mention of a possible switch.
‘I’m very happy for him because he’s had a difficult year at Barcelona with the injury, and now he can enjoy football again,’ Cazorla said.
