The Football Transfer Tavern is closing but just before I ring the last order bell, reports starts to arrive about a possible high-profile departure from Arsenal this summer.
Atletico Madrid are ready to move for Arsenal centre-forward Olivier Giroud as they prepare for life without Diego Costa, according to The Mirror.
The La Liga high-flyers are expected to lose the Brazilian-born Spanish international at the end of the term and Diego Simeone is already searching for a top-qaylity with Giroud fitting the bill.
Olivier Giroud has come in for a fair bit of criticism in the tavern but we feel that the 27-year-old has been a useful presence for Arsene Wengers’ side this season.
He has played nearly every Premier League match and his return of 21 goals in all competitions is a pretty decent return. The striker has often been left plough a lone furrow in attack with Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott suffering injuries.
Arsene Wenger should look to sign a striker or two this summer but he’d do well to keep hold of the Frenchman.
Should the Gunners let Giroud leave this summer or is he criminally underrated? Let us know your thoughts below.
