Arsenal supporters in The Football Transfer Tavern are still reflecting on last night’s Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.
A late goal from Gunners forward Lukas Podolski was not enough to overhaul the deficit from the first leg although it did mean that Arsene Wenger’s men came away with another positive result from the Allianz Arena.
Now news has emerged about the striker with the London Evening Standard reporting that the German has dismissed speculation that he could have departed the Emirates Stadium in January.
The 28-year-old was linked with a move away as a makeweight in any transfer to bring Schalke attacking midfielder Julian Draxler to the Emirates Stadium in the recent transfer window.
Arsene Wenger was desperate to secure the young German, but he was rejected by the Bundesliga outfit after failing to come to any agreement.
It was reported at the time that any move for Draxler could see Podolski moving back to Germany, but now the Gunners man has played down the rumours that he could have been involved in an exchange deal.
He said: “Every top player is of interest to Arsenal – and Draxler is certainly one of those,”
“But I do not know what the [club bosses] are planning. I only know that a swap deal involving me and him was never a consideration.”
He added: “I am in contact with Julian. He is a great guy… but we haven’t spoken about a move.”
We think that keeping Podolski and bringing Draxler to the club would be the best way forward for Arsenal but what do you think? Let us know your thoughts below.
