Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we were shocked to hear that Atletico Madrid have launched a bid to bring Arsenal’s Santi Cazorla back to Spain according to the Daily Mail.
The side who beat local rivals Real Madrid to the Copa Del Rey title last season are looking to add quality to their ranks and feel that the star man for Arsenal could well be the guy to do it for them.
Of course it would take significantly more than the £17.5 million bid from the Vicente Calderon-based side to land the Spanish international – and that is if Arsene Wenger was willing to let him go at all.
Wenger rightly sees the Spaniard as his key player and given the club have seen the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie leave in the last couple of seasons, as one of our punters quips, it is unthinkable that such a highly rated player would be allowed to leave the Emirates Stadium and join Diego Simeone’s men – who recently signed David Villa to make up for the loss of Radamel Falcao.
Arsenal are of course looking to land a forward of their own this summer and have seen a bid for Gonzalo Higuain stall, yet are determined that they will land a top target and are considering making a bid for not only Wayne Rooney but also Luis Saurez to boot.
Surely Cazorla is going nowhere this summer? Would you lose faith if he was allowed a return to Spain Arsenal fans? Let us know your thoughts below.
