There are some wry smiles on the faces of our punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Metro claim Mesut Ozil has a rather keen suitor.
Russian side Zenit Saint Petersburg – now managed by former Chelsea and Tottenham flop Andre Villas-Boas – are keen to land the Arsenal playmaker that only joined the Gunners in the summer following his £42.5 club record transfer from Real Madrid.
Ozil has endured a bit of an indifferent season since coming to England, and despite a great start, his work rate has been questioned after he went missing repeatedly in big games.
Zenit would be prepared to offer a similar amount that Arsenal originally paid for the German star, and want him to join the likes of their other costly foreign imports Hulk and Axel Witsel in the Russian Premier League.
Our punters think that Arsene Wenger would decline such an offer, and is looking to build up his squad up; not destroy it.
As some regulars note, Ozil is a fairly fragile footballer at the best of times, and we do not exactly think he would fare well in Russia!
Is Mesut Ozil set to remain a Gunner for years to come building upon his indifferent start in the Premier League? Let us know your thoughts below.
