Arsenal supporters are already arriving in the Football Transfer Tavern ahead of tonight’s Champions League first leg tie against Bayern Munich.
There is already a nervous apprehension to their mood ahead of the clash against the reigning European champions.
For a while however their focus has been slightly distracted by suggestions from Metro that club captain Thomas Vermaelen has reportedly informed Arsene Wenger that he wants to leave Arsenal during the summer.
The news comes from the Belgian international’s agent, who has told the French boss that his client wants to leave the Emirates Stadium after falling behind Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny in the pecking order in Wenger’s team.
The 28-year-old has now made it clear that he sees his future elsewhere and has asked Wenger to let him depart at the end of the current season.
His agent, Alex Kroes, told Le10 Sport: “Thomas has told Wenger that he wants to leave Arsenal this summer.”
However he denied recent suggestions that Vermaelen has already agreed to sign for Napoli under Rafael Benitez.
“Are the stories true? What you’ve read in the newspapers and on the internet is unfounded,’ Kroes told UltimeCalcioNapoli.
“Things that have been reported are not true, and I say this with full knowledge of the facts.
“Some outlets are beginning to speculate, but that’s all it is – speculation.
“Now is not the time to talk.”
