It has not been a good summer for Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern but our landlord has news from Metro that might cheer them up.
The publication has claimed that the Gunners may not lose defender Thomas Vermaelen just quite yet, with some of the media even claiming that a deal had been agreed with Manchester United for the player.
After Cesc Fabregas joined Chelsea last week, we cannot see this going down well with Arsenal fans here in the tavern and the general consensus seems to be that Arsene Wenger simply has to stop selling his players to rival clubs.
When asked about the chances of Vermaelen joining Louis van Gaal at Manchester United this summer, the defender’s agent denied that terms had been agreed and noted: “No deal is in place with United or any other club”.
Now as our punters remind us, the Belgian defender has slipped down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium and only has one year left on his deal.
Despite this, selling him to a direct Premier League rival in the form of Manchester United is not something that can happen on Arsenal fans’ watch.
Arsenal fans. Should you keep the defender at any cost or is it inevitable that he will go and join Robin van Persie at Old Trafford? Let us know your thoughts below.
