Arsenal fans are getting more and more excited as the summer transfer window approaches and the latest claims from The Independent have done nothing to abate this.
The club are known to be looking for a host of players this summer and now it seems that they have finally settled on the goalkeeper who they want to be their number one by the time the 2013/14 campaign comes around. The Gunners have been linked with players such as Spanish captain Iker Casillas and Liverpool’s Pepe Reina in the past and now it seems that Sunderland stopper Simon Mignolet is the one they are finally ready to make a bid for.
After deciding that Stoke City keeper Asmir Begovic would be too hard to lure to the Emirates Stadium both in terms of financial costs and indeed luring him away from Stoke City, they have settled on £10 million-rated Mignolet.
The 25-year-old has been watched repeatedly by Arsene Wenger and now the Belgian who has kept 10 clean sheets for Sunderland this season despite their awful form has become the one Wenger wants to end years of goalkeeping errors and uncertainty at the club.
Given that Mignolet only cost £2 million when the club signed him under Steve Bruce, they are set to make a substantial return on their investment and despite not wanting to let him leave, £10 million will go a long way to rebuilding the Black Cats side in the summer.
Have Arsenal really settled on Mignolet as their ideal goalkeeping choice? Rate this rumour below.
