Arsenal fans sat in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking pleased with the latest transfer news from The Independent.
The paper reports that Arsenal are planning to increase their pursuit for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa this week by sending scouts to watch him in his side’s final two matches before the Spanish winter break.
It is is understood that chief scout Steve Rowley was in attendance for Atletico’s Copa de Rey clash against Sant Andreu yesterday and will also be casting his eye when Diego Simeone’s men face Levante in the league on Saturday
The 25-year-old Brazilian-born forward, who will now play his international football in Spain, has been in stunning form for the La Liga side this term, hitting 17 goals for Simeone’s team who are currently level on points with Barcelona at the top of the league.
Wenger realises the need to add a world class striker to his ranks after failing to sign Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez over the summer. As one punter quips, signing a back up for Olivier Giroud must be a priority during the upcoming transfer window if they want to secure their first piece of silverware in over eight years.
Costa is thought to have a £32 million buy out clause in his present deal, but he would be ineligible to appear for the Gunners in their Champions League matches against Bayern Munich.
