Some Arsenal supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern seem to have a spring in their step today.
After a disappointing 2-2 draw away at Southampton last night, i’m slightly confused by this overall positive mood.
I soon discover it’s due to reports that have come into the bar that representatives from the club are in German to thrash out a deal with Schalke for long-term target Julian Draxler.
The latest speculation has come from Sky Sports, who suggest that the Gunners are increasingly confident that the transfer could be completed in time for Friday’s deadline.
However if the Gunners are unable to persuade the Bundesliga outfit to part with Draxler, John Cross from the Mirror offers suggestions that Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata could act as a back up short-term addition
The Spanish Under-21 international was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium earlier in the window, but the player himself dismissed these reports by confirming that he wanted to stay at the Bernabeu for the rest of the campaign.
Despite this, Cross claims that the young forward still wants to gain regular football after struggling for matches under Carlo Ancelotti and his representatives have now given the green light to a deadline day loan switch to the Premier League.
We await further news of any progress on the Draxler front, but with Morata reportedly in reserve as a short-term solution, it looks like being another exciting final day of the transfer window for Gunners in the tavern.
Would Morata be an able alternative to Draxler for the Gunners? Let us know your thoughts below.
