This summer all we seem to be talking about here in the Football Transfer Tavern is Arsenal and their failure to land players and the latest claim from the Metro is no change to that.
Arsene Wenger has already seen two forwards in the shape of Gonzalo Higuain and also Stevan Jovetic slip through his fingers and is currently in a huge battle to land Luis Suarez, not to mention trying to get Brazilian keeper Julio Cesar into the club. As the Frenchman is quickly learning, no amount of money can make players join if they simply do not want to.
Now it seems that another top target has decided he would rather stay where he is now – Luiz Gustavo has been linked with a move away from Bavarian giants Bayern Munich as his place has come increasingly under threat with the signing of Thiago Alcantara and the player knows that should he want to make the World Cup squad for Brazil in 2014 – who of course are the home side – first team football is needed.
Despite his slim chances of playing week in week out, he said: ‘I want to stay at Bayern Munich,
‘I am under contract with the club and I want to fulfill that commitment.
‘I have been in a position to fight for a first team role throughout my career. I will keep on fighting this year, too.’
