Arsenal suffer blow in pursuit of long-term target

CarvalhoArsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are disappointed to hear that a race for a long-term midfield target has ended unsuccessfully.

The Mirror run with quotes that suggest William Carvalho is due to sign a long-term contract with Sporting Lisbon, which will surely end any hopes Arsenal have of signing the Portuguese international.

Sporting’s president Bruno de Carvalho revealed the news when speaking to RTP Africawhere he claimed the 23-year-old would put pen to paper imminently.

“What he wants and what we want are perfectly tuned. We will have news about it sooner or later.”

Arsenal fans have seen plenty of twists in this saga, with Carvalho revealing earlier this month that he has fondness for the Gunners and reports in the summer claiming Arsenal had reached a deal to sign the midfielder.

Our punters aren’t too bothered by the reports though as they claim Francis Coquelin is far better than anyone that they could buy, which is a bold claim, but they accept they do need back-up in this area.
