It’s been a quiet evening in the Football Transfer Tavern but things are finally starting to liven up as some fresh gossip reaches the bar.
The speculation comes from The Mirror journalist Alan Nixon who reports that Arsenal are set to be disappointed in the transfer window with Roma close to landing Barcelona starlet Antonio Sanabria.
The Gunners have been strongly linked to the 17-year-old Paraguayan forward in the tavern but today’s reports suggest that the Serie A side have now swooped in with an official offer.
Sanabria can move to any club that activates his £3.6 million release clause after he rejected a contract extension at the Camp Nou and the Rome club have now offered him the chance of regular first team football in Italy.
It was hoped that Arsenal could sign the contract rebel with chief transfer negotiator Dick Law reportedly sent to Spain in order to convince him to follow in the footsteps of Cesc Fabregas to the Emirates Stadium.
Previously there have been some indications that Arsene Wenger was ready to offer Sanabria a chance in the first-team, due to the lack of depth in the Arsenal attack, but it now appears that he will now have to look at other alternatives instead.
Will Roma now land the Barca starlet ahead of the Gunners? Let us know your thoughts below.
