The Daily Mail are unsurprisingly dealing another blow to Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they claim that Valencia goalkeeper Vicente Guaita is not for sale – unless the club are prepared to pay £25 million.
Given the keeper cannot break into the Valencia first team in front of Diego Alves, spending such a huge amount on him would be crazy – even by the standards Arsene Wenger has set thus far in the transfer window.
As one of our punters quips, Arsenal have been linked with an £8 million bid for Real Madrid skipper Iker Casillas, and would be much better served putting the money towards a mega bid for him.
Valencia have told Wenger that he will have no chance of landing the 26-year-old unless such a huge sum is paid. Most of the punters here in the transfer tavern are taking this as a sign that yet another target has slipped through their fingers.
Not only has Wenger struggled to land any of the forwards he wanted this summer, with Stevan Jovetic, Luis Suarez and also Gonzalo Higuain opting to snub the club, now it seems he will lose out once again for a goalkeeping target.
This is of course in addition to turning his attentions to Real Madrid duo Angel Di Maria and Karim Benzema – a sure loser if we ever saw one.
Wenger has promised late transfer window activity but who exactly will be rocking up at the Emirates Stadium? Let us know your thoughts below.
