Sky Sports report that Michael Laudrup has informed Arsenal that even a ‘ridiculous offer’ would not be enough to land Michu this summer.
Arsene Wenger has suffered a frustrating summer in the transfer market and recently long-term target Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has hinted that he wants to stay at Anfield, despite all the speculation.
The French manager is now looking for alternatives as he aims to bolster his strikeforce and has reportedly targeted a move for Swansea’s Spanish sensation Michu.
The 27-year-old was one of the stars of the Premier League season after scoring 22 goals for the Liberty Stadium side following his bargain £2.2million transfer from Rayo Vallecano.
He agreed a new improved four-year contract with Michael Laudrup’s side in January and his boss has previously stated that it would take at least £30million to prise him from South Wales this summer.
And the legendary Danish player has now declared that Swansea have no need to sell Michu so close to the deadline.
“I think economically the club is very good,” said Laudrup. “I know if they (Arsenal) came in with a very late bid, I know that the reaction from the board and chairman will be ‘No’, even if the money is ridiculous, as we will not have time enough to find a replacement who is near enough to the same standard.
“You can say we would get a lot of money but why be the richest club in the championship? What is that worth?
“I spoke to Michu last year and he extended his contract and asked me about mine and I said ‘I am going to stay here’, and he said, ‘So am I’.”
