Yet another blow has been dealt to Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern, as the Gunners have been told one of their top targets will not be leaving Espanyol in the summer according to talkSPORT.
Goalkeeper Kiko Casilla has been linked with a move to the Gunners and as one of our punters notes, given his form over the last couple of seasons that is hardly a surprise.
Arsene Wenger has reportedly been on the hunt for a new number one and has been impressed with the young star.
However, to even be in with a chance of securing his signature he would firstly have to prise the stopper away from Espanyol and secondly compete with the advances of Real Madrid, who are big fans of the young Spanish starlet.
Having produced some of the finest goalkeeping displays in La Liga over the last couple of seasons, the 27-year-old has become hot property, and contract extension talks have stalled.
Casilla is tied to the Catalan side until 2015, and claimed: “I have one year left of my contract and I always keep what I have signed.
“In addition, the renewal will be arranged. At Espanyol I am playing and enjoying. Here I feel very comfortable and I have always said that I want to stay.”
Do you think Arsene Wenger will be able to convince the keeper to join the Gunners? Let us know your thoughts below.
