It’s been another busy Sunday in the Football Transfer Tavern with transfer speculation about Arsenal picking up ahead of the window opening at the beginning of July.
Today’s Telegraph reports that Gunners defensive target Ashley Williams is preparing to leave Swansea City this summer.
The 28-year-old Welsh international has been a key member of the Swans side that have firmly established themselves in the Premier League and the former Stockport County man captained the Welsh side to the Capital One Cup last season.
However he is reported to feel that the time is right to depart the Liberty Stadium as he reaches the pinnacle of his career after five years at the club.
Arsenal and Arsene Wenger have already made enquires about the tough tackling centre back but were not willing to pay the £10 million required.
Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins denied that any talks have taken place saying: “While there seems to be constant speculation about Ashley Williams, I can honestly say that I haven’t had one call from anybody about him.”
However Williams is expected to tell the club he wishes to leave this summer which would see Wenger going back in for the defender.
