Arsenal targeting additions of two quality midfielders, Wenger plotting rebuild

WanyamaArsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been split down the middle due to results over the past few months, with many wanting Arsene Wenger to call time on his successful reign with the Gunners.

However, it seems Wenger will stay on and The Daily Mirror states the Frenchman, who will celebrate 20 years in charge of Arsenal this summer, is eyeing a major rebuild to his underperforming squad.

Wenger, now 66, sees his contract draw to a close in 2017 and it’s likely the manager will remain until that deal ends- although he has privately admitted he feels let down by his current squad, which has seen their quest for Premier League glory falter.

Arsenal have identified the midfield and defence as positions needing to be strengthened, with the former set to become very limited in terms of selections with Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky all seeing their contracts draw to a close.

As such, Arsenal are eyeing Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama and Real Madrid ace Toni Kroos, both of whom could be available in the close-season.

Kenyan international Wanyama would jump at the chance to join a Champions League outfit, and Arsenal hold long-term interest, whilst Kroos could find himself the victim of a squad over at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Would these two midfielders make Arsenal title favourites next year? Let us know in the comments below!
