It is no revelation to say that Nicolas Pepe has come under a fair bit of criticism since joining Arsenal, however, there is still a big group who back the Frenchman to come good.
Previous articles from us show that Arsenal fans have been getting frustrated with their new club-record signing and his lack of goals, but many still think that if he is given the right service he will start adding a lot more.
Popular fan account @AFTVMedia tweeted yesterday with a picture of the forward, saying that he will score much more goals if they can get him playing “forward rather than backwards”.
Bought for a mammoth £72m, the signing hasn’t quite had the instant impact like many fans would’ve hoped. Prior to their Europa League tie against Portuguese outfit Vitoria, he had scored just one goal, which came from the penalty spot. At Lille, he was able to score 35 times in just 74 games (BBC), but so far at Arsenal, he has managed just one in 11 games.
Many fans replied saying that if the midfield had some more creativity, they would be able to find the forward more and in better positions – which led many to call out for Mesut Ozil.
Here are some of the replies below…
He’s had so much space to run into in recent games, Ozil will find him 8 times out of 10

Imagine panicking about Pepe right now, or even thinking he is a flop. People are so needy these days. Players months to settle, and he’s coming from having one good season playing on the counter in France!

With Captain Xhaka wasting time and looking to play safe by playing sideways and backwards, nothing good will happen going forward. @Arsenal and @UnaiEmery_ plays with the handbrake on. Never willing to press or attack the opposition.
