The Daily Mail have a sensational claim for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they claim that Chelsea are set to up their bid for Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.
The England international has been involved in constant speculation of late and the customary media storm has followed him everywhere.
Now it seems that after seeing an initial offer rejected, Jose Mourinho is willing to make a second bid for the striker – one which will offer £25 million cash and an extra £3 million in add ons.
One thing that Chelsea have made exceptionally clear is the fact that no other players were offered as part exchange for Rooney- as originally claimed – and David Luiz and Juan Mata have both been assured they have long-term futures at Stamford Bridge.
Not only is Jose Mourinho in for the forward but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has also claimed he will push to land the forward and has claimed that Rooney’s wages would not be a problem in any potential deal.
The Gunners are notorious for keeping the wage bill low but so keen is Wenger to get a top class forward in, he is willing to forgo the wage structure and offer Rooney what he desires.
The forward may well be ‘angry and confused’ but as one of our punters quips, we would be more than happy to be ‘angry and confused’ if Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal were fighting over us!
Will it be the deal of the summer; will Wayne Rooney trade Old Trafford for Stamford Bridge? Let us know your thoughts below.
