Attention in the Football Transfer Tavern is firmly on tonight’s World Cup qualifying action as England seek to confirm their place in Brazil next summer.
But before the big kick off, some of the punters have become very interested in the latest reports from Metro who claim that Real Madrid will offer Arsenal Karim Benzema for a cut price £20 million as they try to sign Luis Suarez from Liverpool in January.
In what could be the deal of the upcoming transfer window, Real are willing to offload the French international in order to raise funds to pay for the transfer of Suarez to the Bernabeu.
The Emirates Stadium appears to be the likely destination for the 25-year-old forward, who has scored two goals in his eight Madrid appearances this term.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger attempted to sign Benzema during the summer but was not prepared to meet the £40 million asking price and instead saved his money to sign team-mate Mesut Ozil in a club record £43 million deal instead.
However with a potential title challenge in the pipeline with his side leading the Premier League, Wenger will be looking to add to his current squad in the New Year with the main objective to sign a top quality striker to play alongside in-form Olivier Giroud, who hast hit four goals in seven appearances thus far.
Reports in Spain suggest that newly-appointed Real boss Carlo Ancelotti is growing tired of Benzema’s poor form and he could be prepared to let him leave in order to create space at the Bernabeu to finally welcome the arrival of the controversial Liverpool striker to his ranks.
Suarez would cost Real around £50 million with the Reds unwilling to sell the former Ajax striker for any less than his asking price.
Any possible movement could make the January window very interesting as both Liverpool and Arsenal try to claim the Premier League title in the most competitive league for years.
