Metro have the least surprising claim of the summer for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that the agent of Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema has said that his client won’t be moving to Arsenal this summer.
All week we have been discussing the Frenchman and the potential of a move away from the Spanish giants to the Emirates Stadium and now it seems that the prospect is dead in the water.
Much like all the other players he has chased this summer, Arsene Wenger is set to find the door firmly closed in his face.
Benzema had been linked with a £40 million move and one that would see him become the highest player at the club – yet the former Lyon striker is not interested.
His agent Karim Djaziri spoke about the links and noted to Le Journal du Dimanche that: “We can’t stop the rumours. But I tell you: Karim will not go to Arsenal.
“It’s never been a question for him and no contact has been made.”
Benzema is of course the only senior forward left at Los Blancos and it is quite understandable that the club would not want to sell him, and moreover, Benzema would be reluctant to leave when he finally has a chance to establish his place as the number one forward without any competition.
Djaziri also talked about Benzema’s long-term future and stated: “He will stay at Madrid. The probable arrival of Gareth Bale at Real Madrid doesn’t threaten him at all.
“Cristiano Ronaldo and Bale will play on the wings and Karim in the centre.”
He added: “Karim could very well finish his career at Real, the club of his dreams.”
