Arsenal to beat 5pm German deadline to land £40m ace?

Marco Reus

Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are desperate to see attacking reinforcements at the Emirates Stadium before the close of the transfer window.

Sources at The Express reckon the Gunners will make a big money bid before 11pm.

The publication claims Arsene Wenger is preparing a £40 million bid for Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus in a move that will go some way to appeasing supporters desperate to see a top class forward signed.

The Gunners have missed out on Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao in the last couple of days and now look set to turn their attentions to the German international who they have been chasing for most of the summer.

Reus is yet to sign a new contract at Dortmund and will be available for a £20 million buy-out-clause in 12 months’ time.

Despite leaving it late, Arsene Wenger is ready to offer £40 million for the 25-year-old in a deal that could prove reminiscent of the £42.5 million deal to sign Mesut Ozil exactly 12 months ago.

Arsenal are confident Dortmund will accept the offer, having just re-signed Shinji Kagawa from Manchester United.

It now remains to be seen whether they can push the deal through before the German transfer window closes at 5pm British time.
