Arsenal are putting the finishing touches on the £23 million deal that will see Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain become Arsene Wenger’s second summer signing, according to today’s issue of The Guardian.
Reports this morning indicated that negogations between the two parties are ‘very advanced’. The clubs have been in discusssions about a possible transfer for the last few months after Higuain revealed that he wanted to leave Madrid.
Father of the player, Jorge Higuaín, who also represents his son, told Fox Sports Argentina: “We have been given permission by Real Madrid to negotiate with Arsenal. With luck I will see my son in the Premier League soon.”
The 25-year-old Argentine international is now expected to fly to London within the next 48 hours to undergo a medical then put his signature on a massive £130,000-a-week record breaking contract at the Emirates Stadium.
“There isn’t anything signed yet, but the negotiations are very advanced,” Higuaín senior added. “We haven’t spoken about the contract yet. Arsenal have made a great offer, in the same way as Juventus.”
Gunners fans will be eager to see the transfer completed as Wenger looks to mount a challenge at the top of the Premier League next season. Gonzalo Higuain will represent Arsenal’s second summer capture after completing the signing of Auxerre’s Yaya Sanogo earlier this week.
