Arsenal to ease defensive crisis with 30-year-old VETERAN swoop?

PereiratalkSPORT have informed Arsenal fans that their club is competing amongst a cluster of European clubs who are eyeing the availability of Uruguayan international defender Maxi Pereira.

Arsene Wenger, who still hasn’t replaced former captain Thomas Vermaelen, is monitoring the 30-year-old’s situation at Benfica as his contract expires at the end of the season.

The defender apparently has no intentions of renewing his current deal and this has given Arsenal the opportunity pounce as they are looking for defensive reinforcements.

But the Gunners will face stiff competition with Napoli, Besiktas and Rubin Kazan also keeping tabs on Pereira.

Wenger will be desperate to snap up Pereira as his squad is looking incredibly thin in the defensive department which has put a lot of pressure on his current starting line-up.

The Gunners’ injury situation has seemingly grown worse each passing week with noteworthy injuries to French international duo Laurent Koscielny and Mathieu Debuchy.

Although it could be argued that the defensive deficiencies have provided more first team chances for summer signing Calum Chambers who has experienced more football than originally expected by Wenger so far this term.

Arsenal fans. Do you see it as imperative that Arsene Wenger brings in defensive reinforcements in January? Let us know your thoughts below.
