Arsenal to land incredible target ahead of rivals

Pep GuardiolaArsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern almost choked on their sandwiches this afternoon after they heard they were the favourites to land an incredible deal.

The Daily Mail says Pep Guardiola will snub the advances of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City to wait for Arsene Wenger’s position at Arsenal to become available.

Guardiola’s current deal at Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season but Wenger’s deal last until 2017, which means the Catalan boss could remain in Bavaria for an extra year or take a sabbatical until Wenger’s retirement.

Arsenal’s surprise emergence in the race for Guardiola’s signature comes down to the fact that the former Barcelona boss is a huge fan of Wenger and believes his style of football fits the Arsenal philosophy perfectly.

The Gunners themselves are keen to have a high-profile replacement lined-up to ease the blow of losing Wenger, who marks 20-years in the job next year, and avoid the troubles that Manchester United had after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
