It’s a story that simply has not gone away in the Football Transfer Tavern, and now it looks a step closer to reaching it’s conclusion according to Simon Mullock of the Daily Mirror.
Arsenal are believed to have launched a £20 million bid for Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, whose future at Old Trafford has been uncertain since the final remaining months of last season.
Rooney is set to want assurances about his role in the first team from incoming manager David Moyes.
The bid Arsenal have launched is set to be followed by a rival bid from Chelsea, offering the real possibility of a summer long transfer saga.
Jose Mourinho is thought to have made Rooney his number one target, whilst Wenger wants the 27-year-old to spearhead his assault on the Premier League title next season.
Senior officials at Old Trafford have said Rooney is not for sale, and it is understood Moyes is meeting with the striker next week to discuss his future.
United are not keen on selling him to Premier League rivals, and are thought to be holding out until French clubs Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain launch a bid for the England forward.
Would Manchester United take £20 million for Rooney or is he worth more? Where does his future lie? Let us know your thoughts below.
