The Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are a little down in the dumps at the moment after news of Olivier Giroud’s injury.
And according to the Metro, it is unlikely to get any better with the news that the club have enquired about former Birmingham City striker Nikola Zigic.
The lanky Serbian striker is currently a free agent after his contract at the West Midlands club expired at the end of last season.
Rumours had circled that the striker was contemplating retirement, however Zigic’s agent has confirmed that the Gunners are interested and despite suggestions that he might retire, Arsenal have moved in.
Zigic’s agent Milan Calasan told the media: “Wenger called me on Tuesday and stressed his desire to sign Zigic.
“He was offered a contract until the end of the year, with a view to it being extended to 2015 – we’ll see what happens.”
One Serbian news outlet that the 33-year-old is already undergoing a medical with the North London outfit having accepted the clubs’ offer.
