There has been a lot of speculation in the Football Transfer Tavern this summer that Arsenal were hoping to sign Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic as they looked to finally replace Manchester United striker Robin van Persie with ready-made quality.
But news from talkSPORT now suggests that the Gunners could miss out the classy 23-year-old Montenegrin because of his large wage demands.
Arsene Wenger had outlined a move for the Viola star as his transfer priority number one during the post-season but any move seems to be in doubt with the club not willing to budge on their strict pay structure.
Jovetic, who is also wanted by AC Milan and Juventus, is demanding around £120,000-a-week to put pen to paper with the Gunners which is far above what top earners Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski collect weekly.
Losing out on Jovetic wouldn’t be a complete disaster for the Emirates Stadium outfit given their adavanced interest in Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain who has a price tag of around £25 million.
Can Arsenal put together a deal to sign Jovetic or should they shift their attention towards the Argentine international instead? Let us know your thoughts below.
