Arsenal to miss out on long-term transfer target?

4281094 (2)Punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking up from their pints with interest after Metro provided some gossip.

The publication claim that Schalke star Julian Draxler is being lined up for a mega money bid from Bayern Munich.

Whilst it may not normally be surprising news that the Bavarian giants are buying up the top talent in the Bundesliga, our punters note that both Arsenal and Manchester United are keen on the young player.

That of course pricks up our ears in the tavern and we turn to our landlord to learn more.

He tells us that Bayern manager Pep Guardiola is interested in adding the 20-year-old, and according to Norwegian journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft, that has pretty much sealed the deal.

The journalist noted that come 2015, the German international will become a Bayern Munich player thus seeing Arsenal miss out on the player.

Arsene Wenger has long been an admirer of the star and was close to netting him in the January transfer window – but pulled out after hearing he had a £37 million price tag.

Our punters are involved in a tense game of pool, but they find the time to note that yet again, Wenger’s reluctance to spend money could cost the Gunners.

As for Manchester United, would you join the Titanic when the Battleship Royal was also after you?

Do you think that Arsene Wenger’s reluctance to splash the cash has cost the Gunners another top player? Let us know your thoughts below.
