Another hectic Sunday in the Football Transfer Tavern is drawing to a close but not before Tom Hopkinson of The Mirror arrives to explain to punters that Arsenal will step up their pursuit for Freiburg midfielder Matthias Ginter.
The Gunners have sent out young midfielder Francis Coquelin to the German club on a year-long loan and Arsene Wenger is hoping that this arrangement could see the Ginter, 19, being allowed to make the permanent move to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal will have to fend off competition from Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund for the player who can also slot in as a defender. Freiburg have a well-renowned youth academy and Ginter could be the latest starlet to have a big career as a professional footballer.
Another interesting sidenote from Hopkinson is that Wenger is monitoring Gareth Barry’s contract impasse at Manchester City with a view to possible future swoop. The England international will see his current deal at the Etihad Stadium expire at the end of next season and that may see Wenger make his move.
