Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are a grumpy bunch this morning, with the Gunners going four Premier League games without a win following their 0-0 draw with Southampton this weekend, and they’re angrily throwing darts and declaring their title race is over.
The January transfer window was relatively quiet for the Gunners, with only Mohamed Elneny arriving, but it appears that Arsene Wenger did at least try to land some more targets.
The Telegraph state Arsenal were unsuccessful in January approaches for Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell and Fulham ace Ryan Sessegnon, in an attempt to snatch two of English football’s leading prospects.
Chilwell, a 19-year-old full-back, and Sessegnon, a 16-year-old midfielder, were top targets for the Gunners in the mid-season window but moves failed to materialise. However, Arsenal will revive their interest at the end of the season.
It’s likely to be a busy summer for Arsenal, who are set to lose midfield trio Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky upon the expiry of their contract, but Wenger will have around £70m to spend in the next window.
Our landlord believes this is Arsene Wenger’s last chance to go all-out for the Premier League title, as he feels a failure to land the league crown this term and a similar experience the following year will see his time in North London brought to a halt.
