Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we are used to rumours that seem hard to believe but the Daily Mirror are sensationally suggesting that Arsenal want to sign Chelsea striker Fernando Torres yielding shocked faces all around the bar.
The man that the Blues paid £50 million for in January 2011 has been a flop at Stamford Bridge with his decent performances in cup competitions masking his woeful return of just nine Premier League goals last season.
However despite his troubles at the Bridge, Metro suggest that Arsene Wenger wants to link the Spain international forward with possible fellow summer recruit Gonzalo Higuain of Real Madrid.
New Chelsea Jose Mourinho manager is ready to let Torres depart the club and a move where the striker continues to live in London given his young family could suit all parties.
Wenger is reported to have a £70 million transfer budget at his disposal this summer and be could spend at least £20 million on bringing Torres to the Emirates Stadium.
Are Arsenal genuinely interested in the misfiring Spaniard this summer? Surely Mourinho wouldn’t sell to a London rival? Rate this rumour below.
