Arsenal are expected to look for a replacement goalkeeper at the end of the season once Petr Cech hangs up his gloves.
The legendary shot-stopper has decided to call it a day, meaning Unai Emery will need to find someone to challenge Bernd Leno in between the sticks.
And, according to a report by The Sun, it would appear the manager will have to turn to one of his current players out on loan.
Emiliano Martinez is currently playing his football with Reading in the Championship, however, it is understood Emery is monitoring the Argentine ahead of his return in the summer.
Valued at £900k by Transfermarkt, the ‘keeper has been impressing with his performances as he looks to help the Royals remain in England’s second tier.
Martinez is being monitored by Arsenal as it has been revealed that the Gunners do not have the funds available to them to purchase a replacement and will look at strengthening other areas as a priority.
Martinez could actually be a very good backup to Leno next season as the 26-year-old has plenty of pedigree.
As mentioned, the Argentine has put in a number of impressive performances for Reading recently and could be ready to take his chance of first-team football at the Emirates Stadium if handed the opportunity.
With the alleged financial situation Arsenal currently find themselves in, it is no surprise to hear that they will look to prioritise their spending in other areas of the pitch.
