Right back Bacary Sagna is on the verge of joining the Manchester club and Arsene Wenger knows that he must move quickly for a replacement.
And now according to The Express, Wenger has targeted Atsuto Uchida who currently plays for Bundesliga outfit Schalke.
The verastile Japanese international can play on either side of the backline and is already rated as one of the Bundesliga’s best defenders.
A deal for the 26-year-old looks to be in motion and Wenger will be hoping to secure his man sooner rather than later.
The North London outfit had already been heavily linked with a move for Toulouse youngster Serge Aurier in recent weeks along with Manchester City’s utility man Micah Richards.
Atletico Madrid’s Juanfran is also rumoured to be on Wengers’ shopping list but Uchida’s blend of talent and experience makes him the most likely player of the three to move to the Emirates Stadium.
