Metro have a claim that has Arsenal fans looking up with interest here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
They claim that the Gunners could well be set to land a top player this summer – for free.
As one of our punters notes, it is no shock that Arsene Wenger has already got a bargain lined up. We all know he thought £37 million was far too much for Julian Draxler, but to land Gareth Barry on a free would be sound business.
The England midfielder has been enjoying a new lease of life at Everton this season after being sent out on loan by Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini and as one of our punters notes, at times, Barry has been missed by the Citizens.
It is a huge blow for Everton, with manager Roberto Martinez keen to keep hold of Barry, but the Spanish manager is fully aware that the chance to play for Arsenal while also playing Champions League football may well prove too much for the 32-year-old.
One of our punters notes that City are missing out here, and despite all their riches, having a hard-working player like Barry is never a bad thing.
Will Wenger convince Barry to sign a deal with the Gunners? Let us know your thoughts below.
