The Mirror excites Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern as their gaffer is reported to be looking to sign West Ham United’s Winston Reid for a cut-price fee in January as a free transfer looms at the end of the season.
It is well documented that Arsene Wenger is craving further defensive reinforcements in January after his squad has been hit with numerous injuries and it looks as though he may have found his solution.
New Zealand international Reid has been a highly-rated over the past few years in the Premier League and it is believed that Wenger has sent out scouts to watch him this season as he prepares a bid for the January transfer window.
The 26-year-old has not committed to a new deal at Upton Park yet which hints he is seeking an exit as he will become a free agent at the end of season.
But after West Ham’s bright start to the season which sees them currently perched in an impressive fourth place, this alone could be enough to persuade Reid to stay in East London.
And the Hammers’ co-owner David Gold has given Irons fans confidence as says he is ‘hopeful’ that the centre back will stay.
Reid recently became the captain of New Zealand’s international side and Wenger is determined to tie him up in January at a bargain price before another club does.
