Metro have claimed that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is already preparing for the January transfer window, and we here in the Football Transfer Tavern are eager to hear who the Gunners manager is targeting.
As our landlord points out, Wenger does not exactly have a history of splashing the cash in the winter but after the summer, he is eager to add to his already developing squad.
Arsenal have taken most of us in the tavern by surprise this term and after their defeat to Aston Villa, we thought it would be same old, same old for the North London club.
That has not been the case, and the Gunners are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League.
When asked about his plans for this winter, Wenger noted: “We will assess that situation in January.
“At the moment we are like every other club – focused on the short-term and for us what is vital is Saturday’s game.”
As our punters note, the club could well do with at least a couple of players, and have been heavily linked to a host of forwards and also defenders.
Now it seems they are keeping faith in their current keeper Wojciech Szczesny, a striker simply has to be the top priority for Wenger and the likes of Karim Benzema have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium. Real Madrid team-mate Angel Di Maria is also a potential target for the Gunners.
Will Wenger splash the cash once more this January? Let us know your thoughts below.
