It’s not the most shocking news we’ve heard in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Daily Star report that Arsenal have been told that reported target, Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko is not for sale during January.
There had been recent speculation in the tavern that Arsene Wenger had made the 27-year-old Bosnian international forward one of his prime transfer targets for the upcoming transfer window, with the Gunners seeking reinforcements in attack.
However City boss Manuel Pellegrini has now dismissed these rumours, stating: “No, that is not the case [that Dzeko could be sold].
“I put my trust in him before the season and I have just as much trust in him now.
“It is very important for this club to have a good squad because we have a lot of games to play from now until April and, if we want to win trophies, we need important players.”
Pellegrini also told Dzeko that he was guaranteed football during the busy Christmas period, even though he is behind Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo in the striking pecking order.
He added: “Maybe at the moment he is not playing as much as he would like, but he remains an important part of the squad.”
Other targets for Wenger include Real Madrid youngster Alvaro Morata and former AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato as he searches for a possible partner for Olivier Giroud in his side.
