In the least shocking news of the summer thus far, should the Daily Mail be believed, it seems that Arsene Wenger is about to be handed another blow in the transfer window as Manchester City made it clear that Edin Dzeko is not for sale.
After slightly confusing reports over the future of Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, who first wanted to leave Anfield, but is now looking like he could stay, it seems that Arsene Wenger has turned his attentions to other targets.
This list included the Manchester City forward, who at one point looked odds on favourite to leave the club this summer.
Now however, it seems that despite signing Alvaro Negredo and also former Arsenal target Stevan Jovetic, new manager Manuel Pellegrini is willing to hand Dzeko a chance and keep the forward at the Etihad Stadium.
Given that Dzeko managed to be the club’s top scorer last term coming off the bench on most occasions and being clearly marked as Roberto Mancini’s super sub, it is little wonder Pellegrini sees keeping the player as a good option.
Wenger meanwhile is fast running out of options at this point having thrown all his eggs in the Suarez basket and is set to see that deal fall to pieces as well.
After seeing his latest target commit to his current club, Wenger has now also eyed Swansea City forward and signing of last season, Michu, yet will again struggle to prise the forward away from Michael Laudrup’s club after a very successful season last term.
Where will Wenger turn next or will he simply be content with what he is at his current disposal? Let us know your thoughts below.
