Aston Villa fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern have been busy celebrating their side avoiding relegation, although Massimo Marioni of Metro reckons they may not be celebrating for too much longer.
Star striker Christian Benteke is reportedly demanding a bumper pay rise after he almost single handedly saved the club from the Championship, and may look elsewhere if his demands are not met.
North London duo Arsenal and Tottenham are both strongly interested in the 22-year-old, who has managed a superb 19 Premier League goals in his debut season.
Now Benteke’s agent Eris Kismet has said he expects his client to be suitably rewarded for his efforts if he is to remain at Villa Park next season.
Kismet said: “Now that Villa’s future is secure I hope we can have discussions by the end of this week. If not, then next week.
“We did the transfer deal last summer with Aston Villa with a lot of respect. We hope that discussions on a new contract will be done in the same way.
“Villa have said they want to speak for several weeks, but it has been difficult because of the situation in the Premier League. Now they are safe the situation will change.”
Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund are the latest side to be linked with a move for the Belgian forward.
Kismet added: “A lot of scouts from many teams have an interest in Christian. Now Villa’s future in the Premier League is decided we will know more.
“It is natural for many teams to show an interest when Christian has had such a good season.”
