The punters in the Football Transfer Tavern who hail from North London are looking up with great interest at the latest claim from the Daily Mail.
The publication seem to be under the impression that Alvaro Morata could well be on the verge of leaving the Spanish capital.
The Real Madrid forward has been scouted by both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, with both club keen on bringing the Spanish Under-21 international star to their clubs.
It had previously been thought that Morata would be staying at Real Madrid, with Karim Benzema and Jese Rodriguez’s futures both up in the air.
Now however, it seems that manager Carlo Ancelotti is considering letting the player leave in order for him to get some much need first team action.
Both Morata and Jese have come through the Real Madrid youth system, and it was Morata who former manager Jose Mourinho deployed as his back up to Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema.
Morata scored some memorable goals including the winner against Levante in what Mesut Ozil dubbed a ‘waterpolo game.’
Ancelotti however seems to rate Jese slightly more and is keen on giving the young player more chances, meaning Morata is once again pushed down the striking pecking order. Should another forward also arrive a the club, this will hamper his chances even further.
Both Spurs and the Gunners are in need of a forward, and Morata is young enough to be a long-term target, relatively cheap and someone who can be developed.
Will Morata be allowed to leave the Spanish capital? Let us know your thoughts below.
