There is no shock here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by the Daily Express that the rumoured move of Stevan Jovetic to Arsenal will hinge on the club getting into the top four and thus obtaining Champions League football.
In reality it is not surprising that a player of Jovetic’s calibre not to mention one with a host of other clubs after him will want to be playing at the top level of European football next season and it seems that Arsenal now have yet another thing riding on them making it into the top four.
Despite it being claimed that Manchester City were the club who had dibs on the player, it now seems that Arsene Wenger feels he can lure the player to the Emirates Stadium in the summer as part of a massive overhaul of the squad. He sees the forward as a vital part of this and is fully aware that a world class marksman is more than required at the club.
Jovetic would cost in the region of £25 million which of course would smash Arsenal’s previous transfer record yet this is something Wenger is more than prepared to do. The club are in a three way battle for the top four with the final two spots up for grabs with their North London rivals and indeed Chelsea looking to pip them to the post.
If Arsenal fail to get in the top four, is it curtains for the Jovetic deal? Let us know your thoughts below.
