There are serious looks of concern here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Metro claim that no bids have been placed by Arsenal for summer transfer target Gonzalo Higuain of Real Madrid.
It had been thought that the French-born Argentine forward was basically on his way to the Emirates Stadium after expressing his desire to leave Los Blancos yet now it seems that the deal has reached a stage of stalemate.
Quite if this is down to money or the new manager at Real Madrid Carlo Ancelotti remains to be seen yet Los Blancos president Florentino Perez is now claiming that: “We don’t want him [Higuain] to leave.
“And besides, nobody from Arsenal has come here to present an offer for him. Not £27 million – nothing. We have not received an offer.”
Arsenal have now of course turned their attentions to Liverpool’s Luis Suarez and will certainly face a fight to land the Reds forward – given the Merseyside club’s reluctance to let him depart Anfield this summer.
This of course leaves Arsenal in the lurch and given Barcelona’s David Villa has just joined Atletico Madrid, this means another of Arsene Wenger’s striking targets this summer has gone – and former top target Stevan Jovetic of Fiorentina is also wanted by Manchester City meaning money and titles will be offered to lure the forward to the Etihad Stadium, not the Emirates Stadium.
Where do Arsenal go from here? Is it a case of same old, same old for the Gunners? Let us know your thoughts below.
