That’s going to be a long running saga during this transfer period with the Spaniard looking ever more likely to make a Premier League return.
But the Gunners aren’t just targeting midfielders this summer – they also need more firepower.
And according to The Mirror, they are interested in working on a deal for Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony who had a fine first season in South Wales.
But the Ivory Coast international won’t be available on the cheap with the Swans expecting £19 million in return for the striker.
The 25-year-old only arrived in the Premier League last season and scored 25 goals in all competitions following his move from Vitesse Arnhem.
West Ham United and Newcastle United are also rumoured to be interested in his signature but they’re likely to have little chance of securing their man if Arsenal do confirm their interest.
Swansea are reluctant to sell their star man but understand that Bony is in the shop window this summer after securing a place in the Ivory Coast squad that will be travelling to Brazil for the World Cup.
Interestingly, Swansea are set to confirm the signing of FC Twente’s Luc Castaignos – also a striker – adding fuel to the Bony exit rumours.
