The Mirror reveals to punters in the Football Transfer Tavern that despite Southampton’s sensational start, Saints midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has insisted that he still has a burning passion to play for a ‘big club’.
The French international’s comments were made while Arsenal reportedly renewed their interest in the talented midfielder with our resident Saints contingent disappointed to hear that he still has one eye on a move.
The transfer saga began last summer when the 25-year-old was desperate for a move to Tottenham or Arsenal only to see a potential move blocked by the St. Mary’s club, eventually leading to an infamous outburst on Twitter.
Saints fans were initially furious at the midfielder but he has since managed to win them over after playing such a significant role in their fine start to the season.
Saints currently sit in second place behind Chelsea and Schneiderlin has warned that he is eyeing a move to a big club.
That said, if Ronald Koeman’s side remarkably qualify for the Champions League, he would then consider staying.
He said: “If someone had told me at the end of the transfer window that Southampton would be second, I would not have believed it.
“A career passes quickly and I want to play for a big club. Today I am at Southampton, we are second in the Premier League, it’s going well.
“We’ll see at the end of the season if [a transfer] will happen. If we have qualified for the Champions League, I will make the choice.”
