There are shocked faces to say the least around the Football Transfer Tavern today as Luis Suarez will not be sold for less than £100 million according to Metro.
In comments that could quite justifiably see Arsene Wenger asking just what fellow manager Brendan Rodgers had been smoking, the Liverpool boss has noted that his star man will not be sold for anything less than the crazy amounts circulating around Gareth Bale.
As one of our punters quips, the man that seems to have become Wenger’s beacon of hope for next season – especailly after seeing his side manage to lose their own trophy – the Emirates Cup and get battered by old nemesis Didier Drogba to boot, it will now be interesting to see just what Wenger will do, given he noted he would not be draw into a bidding war for the forward, or pay £100 million.
Reds manager Rodgers noted that: “Every single player in the world has a valuation. But I spoke to our owners again last night and they know what we are trying to do here.
“Gareth Bale has been valued in nine figures. Now I thought Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez were the two best players in the Premier League last season.
“You can’t say that Gareth Bale is worth 100 percent more than Luis Suarez.”
Clearly Wenger will be hoping Liverpool decide that Suarez is worth around 50 per cent of Bale given they have bid £40 million and £1 and do not seem to be upping their bid very much.
Will Suarez move to Arsenal in what would be arguably the biggest transfer story of the summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
